Promotion & Relegation

From Grand Prix Racing Online

The Basics

  • If you are in Negative you will relegate a level, unless you are in Rookie in which case you will remain where you are.
  • The top 4 managers in each group (except Elite), who are not in debt, will promote to the next level.
  • The bottom 16 managers in each group (except rookie) will relegate to the level below. However, managers in debt will be relegated first, and the highest placed managers in the relegation positions not in debt will be saved in their place.
  • There will be extra promotions from Rookie, Amateur & Pro to the next level if extra places become available, through either additional relegations, rookie resets or retirements.
  • There will not be extra promotion spots from Master to Elite, only the top 4 (not in debt) will promote. In Elite, rookie resets & retirements are handled first, and the top places in the relegation zone will be saved from relegation.

Promotion / Relegation Script Order

  1. Remove inactive managers above Rookie
  2. Remove retired managers
  3. Move managers to Rookie who asked for a reset
  4. Promote managers on the top 4 spots (if in negative, then the next ones)
  5. Relegate all managers with negative balance
  6. Now relegate the managers from the bottom of the standings till at least 16 left the group.

Extra Promotions

Extra promotion spots occur if managers get retired, reset to Rookie, or deleted due to inactivity. This means 16 managers are removed from the group, but less than 16 actually relegate to the level below. This creates additional spots in the level below, which then requires additional promotions.

For Example:

If in Master 2, the manager who was in 12th position in the standings retired at the end of the season - that would save the manager in 25th position from being relegated. 16 managers will have been removed from Master 2, but only 15 will be relegated to the Pro level. However, since the correct amount of managers will leave the Pro level (promoting as well as relegating), this opens an additional promoting spot for an additional Amateur manager to promote to Pro.

Short Version:

Any manager with R and N above the relegation zone saves the first manager from inside the relegation zone with positive balance.

This page will show you who might be promoted at the end of the season. It starts off showing who the top four managers in each group are, who will earn the automatic promotion. Following this is a list of the leading points scorers across all groups at that level who may be promoted if additional spots are available.

Note that it is not always going to be 100% right during the season as managers who are in negative are not included here. Also, it is possible for managers not included in this list to be promoted if at the end of the season there are additional promotion spots. If you do not appear on this list, but you have enough points that you would fall just below the list, there is still a chance you could promote.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does the “N” after the manager names in the season standings mean?

The “N” represents negative balance for the manager.

What does the “R” after the manager names in the season standings mean?

The “R” represents a manager who has requested to either Reset to rookie or Retire from the game.

When is the promotion / relegation calculated, is it before or after all prize money is awarded?

The promotion / relegation is calculated after the bonus for top 10 finishing position is paid after the last race of the season and BEFORE prize money for scored points, team money and bonus for driving all races in the season is paid. It is better to plan for promotion and make sure you have some money to further improve your car, it wouldn’t be a good idea to promote with very little money.
